Stephen King's Richard Bachman's Blaze
Aug. 16th, 2007 09:59 pmAren't we at the point yet where King can stop pretending we don't know he's Richard Bachman? Apparently we're not at the point where his picture is hidden, Where's Waldo style, in the posters for his movies so...no.
I kind of want to make a voice post of some of the choicier dialogue in this book, but I'm sure that would be a ticket to copyright infringementville, so I'll just quote:
"What's the gag, George?" Then he reconsidered the hot, urgent eyes. "I don't hurt nobody."
"Me either. Bang bang's for mokes, now listen."
You can kind of tell he wrote this a way long time ago. It's been pretty well updated to current years, but it still feels like really, really, really, really old school King. Pre-Carrie King. Which is exactly what this book is.
It's an interesting peek into how he wrote back then. Other than that, it's kind of a boring book. A fast read, which...is not exactly something you want in a King novel. Or a Bachman novel.
I kept hoping that, like Lisey's Story, I'd get through it and just GET IT. Just understand what he was trying to say and what he was trying to do. But I didn't. I really, really didn't.
That said, the chapter from Duma Key was really great.
