Jonathan met and got together with both of them through and for John. Which is a great way to start any relationship, right? Jonathan has a tendency to focus really hard on the people that he cares about and/or loves. Sometimes that leads to decisions like driving someone who hurt one of them super-crazy. Sometimes it leads to kidnapping his family to an alternate dimension. Or threatening to kill their exes if they come near them. Or buying them dresses and a house. It's very one extreme to the other, or something.
Unfortunately, he also has a tendency to want things that are not good for him or his relationships, or at least not the ones that he has at the moment. Like the moving his family to another world. Like the being Scarecrow in another world.
He likes that he and Elizabeth are so similar. He likes that Donna seems, at least to him, to understand his crazy and doesn't seem to mind his...habits a little bit more.
